The partnership aims to develop resilient and intelligent C5ISR (Command, Control, Communication, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) solutions that maintain operational effectiveness even in GPS-denied or contested environments — scenarios increasingly relevant for safeguarding maritime infrastructure, shipping lanes, and energy assets.
Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s business area Dynamics, highlighted the significance of this cooperation:
- Our collaboration with Maxar marks a major advancement in leveraging space-domain intelligence to bolster strategic defense capabilities across Europe and beyond. By fusing Maxar’s unparalleled geospatial insights and satellite technology with Saab’s defense platforms, we are setting new benchmarks for operational reliability and effectiveness across land, sea, air, cyber, and space domains.
The integration of Maxar’s satellite-based geospatial intelligence enhances situational awareness and targeting precision, which is crucial for naval and maritime security operations. This partnership supports evolving defense requirements in complex multi-domain battlespaces where secure and resilient communications and targeting systems are vital.
For the Baltic Sea region and other strategic maritime zones, the collaboration offers a pathway to enhanced maritime domain awareness and protection against emerging threats, including cyberattacks and electronic warfare targeting critical naval assets and sea lines of communication.
This alliance between Saab and Maxar represents a forward-looking step in the evolution of maritime and multi-domain defense capabilities, leveraging space technology to meet the complex challenges of modern security environments.
