The appointment forms part of the company’s strategy to expand its role as an integrator of specialized dual-use technologies, applicable across both military and civilian sectors. This includes solutions with potential deployment in port security, offshore infrastructure protection, and the safeguarding of critical assets in the Baltic Sea region.
Amid a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape, the importance of maritime security continues to grow. Advanced technologies such as counter-UAS systems, real-time threat monitoring, and data-driven situational awareness are becoming essential for protecting ports, energy terminals, and subsea infrastructure, including pipelines and communication cables.
Łukasz Gmys is a recognized expert in innovative defence technologies. He was a finalist in the NATO Innovation Challenge focused on countering fibre-optic-controlled drone threats-an area of increasing relevance given recent operational developments. Previously, he played a key role in scaling a European software engineering company specializing in Python-based data analytics and machine learning solutions.
In his new role at Defence.Hub, he will be responsible for expanding the company’s dual-use project portfolio, developing international partnerships, and securing funding for defence and security initiatives, including those with applications in the maritime sector.
- Taking on this role is both a challenge and an opportunity to contribute to the development of technologies that enhance the security of Poland and Europe. My focus will be on building strong partnerships and accelerating the commercialization of solutions that can also support the protection of maritime infrastructure, said Łukasz Gmys.
The company’s strategic direction reflects a broader trend of increasing reliance on advanced technologies to ensure maritime security, particularly in the context of protecting critical energy infrastructure and maintaining the resilience of key transport routes across the Baltic Sea.
