The first vessel of the class was launched in May 2025 and is currently in the outfitting phase, while the second corvette entered production in late 2024 and is undergoing hull assembly. With the start of the third ship’s construction, three out of four vessels are now actively in progress. According to the current schedule, the Pohjanmaa-class corvettes will be delivered between 2027 and 2029, with the entire programme completed by the end of the decade.
Strengthening Finnish naval capabilities
Designed to operate in the demanding and often icy conditions of the Baltic Sea, the Pohjanmaa-class corvettes are intended to serve as the backbone of the Finnish Navy for decades to come. Their advanced propulsion, combat systems, and sensor suites will provide Finland with a versatile and resilient naval capability within the evolving security environment of the Baltic region and NATO’s northern flank.
Industrial investments and partnerships
RMC has invested heavily over the past decade in production facilities, workforce expertise, and naval design competence. These efforts have positioned Rauma as a leading European shipyard for high-end government vessels operating in harsh environments. A broad and established partner and subcontractor network is integral to the project’s success, ensuring both efficiency and quality across the supply chain.
Economic and regional impact
The programme’s industrial footprint extends beyond security: the construction of the four corvettes is estimated to generate more than 3,600 person-years of employment in Finland, bringing sustained economic benefits to the Satakunta region and the nation as a whole.
