Silver medal for Maria Miarczyńska at the iQFOiL Youth World Championships in Brest
Poland’s Maria Miarczyńska (Sopocki Klub Żeglarski) claimed a silver medal in the U15 division at the iQFOiL Youth World Championships, held in Brest, France, from July 27 to August 1. The young sailor from Sopot also delivered an outstanding performance in the U17 category, finishing in 7th place overall among older and more experienced competitors.

This year’s championships were marked by challenging weather conditions. The opening days were dominated by light winds, which limited the number of races completed. It wasn’t until day five that steady breeze and flat water allowed for a full schedule of windward sprint races—reshuffling the leaderboards and setting the stage for a dramatic final showdown in the Medal Series.
Miarczyńska was the only Polish athlete to reach the final day of competition, securing her spot in the Medal Series, where the top eight sailors in each fleet competed for podium positions. Light winds and fog returned for the final day, creating an additional layer of tactical complexity.
Other Polish athletes posted strong results across categories, though none advanced to the Medal Series:
- Michelle Urzykowski – 11th (U17 Girls), SKŻ Ergo Hestia Sopot
- Martyna Figura – 12th (U17 Girls), SKŻ Ergo Hestia Sopot
- Maciej Dąbek – 11th (U19 Boys, out of 149 competitors), SKŻ Ergo Hestia Sopot
- Leon Jankowski – 15th (U19 Boys), SKŻ Ergo Hestia Sopot
- Zofia Zarzecka – 15th (U19 Girls), Yacht Klub Polski Warszawa
- Julia Przybył – 28th (U19 Girls) and 4th overall in the U17 Girls classification, UKS Szturwał Kalisz
- Tymon Wrzesiński – 25th (U17 Boys), SKŻ Ergo Hestia Sopot
- Tomasz Beta – 5th (U15 Boys), Łebski Klub Żeglarski
- Patryk Miarczyński – 7th (U15 Boys), SKŻ Ergo Hestia Sopot
Maria Miarczyńska’s podium finish in Brest highlights the strength of Poland’s youth windsurfing development programs, particularly those based at Sopocki Klub Żeglarski. Her silver medal stands as a testament to the emerging talent and competitive spirit within the Polish iQFOiL fleet.
