The SLWT, designated Torped 47 by the Swedish Armed Forces, is a cutting-edge light torpedo system designed to enhance Sweden’s naval defence capabilities. While primarily intended for deployment from submarines and surface vessels, it is also prepared for integration with rotary-wing aircraft.
This marks the second order for the SLWT system from Sweden, following initial deliveries to FMV in 2022. In addition to the torpedoes themselves, the package includes spare parts, training systems, and ongoing technical support.
- We are proud to continue supporting Sweden in modernising its underwater defence systems to safeguard the Baltic Sea region. This state-of-the-art system significantly boosts the operational capabilities of the Swedish Armed Forces, said Mats Wicksell, Head of Saab’s Kockums business area.
Built for the Baltic
The Torped 47 has been specifically engineered for the challenging maritime environment of the Baltic Sea, where shallow waters, complex seabed topography, and unique acoustic conditions present significant operational demands. These conditions require advanced performance in submarine detection, target identification, navigation, and underwater communication.
The SLWT system represents a key component of Sweden’s broader strategy to bolster undersea warfare capabilities and regional maritime security in an increasingly complex threat landscape.
