Port of Gdynia strengthens ties with Asia. Delegation from Kaohsiung visits the Baltic

Separated by thousands of kilometers, the Baltic Sea and the South China Sea are now connected by a shared vision for port development and the maritime economy. A high-level delegation from Kaohsiung, one of Taiwan’s leading port cities, visited the Port of Gdynia to explore investment opportunities and discuss potential cooperation in logistics, sustainability, and digitalization.

The visit was part of a broader program marking the establishment of formal sister-city relations between Gdynia and Kaohsiung on Sunday, September 14. Alongside the city partnership agreement, the two sides signed a memorandum focused on strengthening economic ties. The stop at the Port of Gdynia extended these commitments into the strategic dimension of port and logistics cooperation.

Strategic investments and innovation in focus

During the meeting, Adam Hoppe, Director of the Strategy and Market Analysis Office, and Angelika Zając-Szypulska, specialist at the same office, presented Gdynia’s flagship development projects. These include the construction of the Outer Port, the Red Road access route, the modernization of railway line no. 201, and the expansion of intermodal infrastructure. The delegation was also briefed on the Port’s environmental initiatives and digital transformation projects designed to enhance its competitiveness within European supply chains.

– Although we are the youngest of Poland’s seaports, we take pride in our rich history and close integration with the city itself. Together with Gdynia, we form a unique economic ecosystem. I am confident that our cooperation with partners from Kaohsiung will open new perspectives for development – both locally and internationally, said Mirosław Czapiewski, Vice-President of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A.

Connecting Europe and Asia through maritime hubs

For both Gdynia and Kaohsiung, port development has been central to their economic growth. Today, both cities emphasize innovation, sustainable development, and building global partnerships. The visit to the Port of Gdynia created a platform for knowledge exchange and laid the foundation for future projects that could further strengthen the position of both hubs as key logistics centers in Europe and Asia.
