Polish tactical communications breakthrough: COMP@N-Z enters NATO catalogue
Poland’s tactical communications system COMP@N-Z has been officially included in the NATO Information Assurance Product Catalogue (NIAPC), marking a significant milestone for the country’s defence technology sector and its integration with allied systems. The inclusion confirms that the system meets stringent NATO requirements for the protection of classified information.

The solution was thoroughly evaluated by the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA), which is responsible for certifying technologies used within the Alliance. Following a comprehensive verification process, COMP@N-Z was approved for handling information classified at the NATO Restricted level.
A rare achievement for the Polish defence industry
The inclusion in NIAPC highlights the capabilities of WB GROUP, one of Poland’s leading defence technology companies, in delivering secure and interoperable communications systems aligned with NATO standards. Notably, COMP@N-Z is only the second Polish system in history to be listed in the catalogue, underlining the exclusivity of this achievement.
Integrated communications architecture for modern operations
COMP@N-Z is designed as a fully integrated tactical communications ecosystem. It consists of the programmable H09-Z/1 radio, a radio network planning system, and tools for cryptographic data generation and management. The system forms a complete communications architecture tailored for modern battlefield requirements.
An additional vehicular radio, also capable of operating as a manpack solution, is expected to be integrated into the system in the near future, further enhancing its operational flexibility.
The system has been developed by engineers at RADMOR, WB GROUP’s competence centre for military radiocommunications, based in Gdynia. The facility is responsible for designing advanced tactical radios used by the Polish Armed Forces and international customers.
Certification pathway and cyber defence cooperation
A key milestone in the certification process was obtaining a cryptographic protection certificate issued in 2025 by Poland’s Military Counterintelligence Service. This certification confirmed that the system can process classified information at the “Restricted” level under national regulations.
The path to NATO recognition involved close cooperation with national cyber defence institutions. The Cyber Defence Component Command played a significant role, conducting a substantial part of the testing and providing technical consultations throughout the development process.
H09-Z/1 radio: the system’s core
At the heart of COMP@N-Z is the H09-Z/1 handheld radio, operating in the 30–520 MHz frequency range. The device delivers up to 5 W of power, with the option to increase output to 50 W via an external amplifier.
The radio employs advanced waveforms, including MANET and W2FH (EPM class), ensuring resilience against jamming and effective operation in contested electromagnetic environments. Features such as frequency hopping, low probability of detection/intercept (LPD/LPI), and silent operation significantly enhance survivability on the battlefield.
The system enables simultaneous voice and data transmission, including IP-based communications, and supports both secure and non-secure modes of operation.
NATO interoperability and encryption standards
COMP@N-Z is fully aligned with NATO interoperability requirements. It uses STANAG 5068 for voice communications and STANAG 4787 for data transmission. Integrated COMSEC, NETSEC, and TRANSEC mechanisms provide end-to-end protection of communications.
The cryptographic key management complies with EKMS 308 standards, ensuring compatibility with NATO systems and secure handling of encryption material.
Strategic relevance for Poland and the Alliance
The successful inclusion of COMP@N-Z in the NATO catalogue represents more than a technological achievement. It demonstrates that Polish defence solutions can compete on the international stage and meet the highest security benchmarks.
In an era of increasing geopolitical tensions and growing importance of secure, interoperable communications, systems like COMP@N-Z strengthen both Poland’s position within NATO and the Alliance’s overall operational resilience.
