Medical evacuation from offshore vessel in the Baltic. Rescue 511 helicopter and m/s Huragan deployed
The Morskie Ratownicze Centrum Koordynacyjne (MRCC Gdynia) dispatched the SAR helicopter Rescue 511 from Darłowo and the rescue vessel m/s Huragan from the SAR station in Łeba to conduct a medical evacuation from an offshore vessel operating in the Polish sector of the Baltic Sea.

The case concerned a crew member requiring urgent transfer ashore. Considering the vessel’s position and the operational context in an area of intensive offshore activity, MRCC decided to deploy both air and sea assets, ensuring operational flexibility and continuity of response under prevailing maritime conditions.
According to Sebastian Kluska, Director of the Morska Służba Poszukiwania i Ratownictwa (MSPiR SAR), the operation was carried out in line with established SAR procedures. The patient was safely evacuated and handed over to onshore medical services.
Such interventions in the vicinity of offshore wind farm construction sites are becoming increasingly frequent. The rapid expansion of offshore energy projects in the Baltic Sea, combined with intensified vessel traffic and the continuous presence of technical crews at sea, naturally translates into a higher number of medical and operational incidents requiring SAR support.
From a system perspective, however, these cases also confirm the high level of readiness of the Polish maritime rescue service. Efficient coordination by MRCC Gdynia, prompt deployment of appropriate assets and seamless cooperation between air and sea components demonstrate that the SAR framework is well aligned with the evolving risk profile of the offshore sector and capable of delivering timely assistance in a demanding operational environment.
