Over 1,200 sailors on Mallorca. Poles kick off the season at Trofeo Princesa Sofia
The 55th edition of Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca will take place from March 27 to April 4, traditionally opening the Sailing Grand Slam 2026 season. On the waters of Palma Bay, all ten Olympic sailing disciplines will be contested, with an impressive fleet of over 800 teams and more than 1,200 sailors from 62 countries, making Mallorca once again a global center for Olympic sailing.

The regatta is one of the key events of the season, alongside the Semaine Olympique Française, Dutch Water Week, Kieler Woche, and Long Beach & San Pedro Olympic Classes Regatta. Most classes will start racing on Monday, March 30, while Formula Kite and iQFOiL competitors will begin a day later.
For years, Mallorca has been the site of the first serious form check – sailors measure themselves against the world’s best ahead of major season events, many of which are scheduled for May and September.
For two crews of the Polish Sailing Association National Team in the 470 Mixed class – Agnieszka Skrzypulec-Szoty (YKP Szczecin) with Szymon Wierzbicki (AZS Poznań) and Zofia Korsak with Mikołaj Bazyl (MKS Dwójka Warszawa/KSW Baltic Dziwnów) – this will be their second senior start of the season after recently concluded European Championships.
Among 67 crews, we will also see Agnieszka Pawłowska and Tomasz Lewandowski (CHKŻ Chojnice/KS AWFiS Gdańsk), Pola Schmidt and Tymon Kosobucki (YKP Gdynia), and Jan Zamojski with Iga Wielczyk (YKP Gdynia/SSW MOS Iława).
In the 49er class, which will feature 101 crews, Poland will be represented by four duos: Mikołaj Staniul with Jakub Sztorch (KS AWFiS Gdańsk), August Sobczak and Fabian Kocięda (Chojnicki Klub Żeglarski/AZS AWFiS Gdańsk), Igor Kawałko and Wiktor Mielnik (Olsztyński Klub Żeglarski), and Dominik Buksak with Mateusz Gwóźdź (Centrum Żeglarskie Szczecin/KS AZS AWFiS Gdańsk), for whom this will be their debut at a regatta of this level as a team.
– A few weeks ago, I started a project with a new crew member, Mateusz Gwoźdź. So far, we haven’t had many opportunities to train together, but Mateusz is doing great – progress is very fast, definitely faster than I expected. This is very positive because he is highly committed and learns really quickly, and the results of our work are simply impressive – says Dominik Buksak, fifth-place finisher at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, who last week with his new crew placed 3rd at the Mallorca Sailing Center Training Regatta.
– At the same time, we are approaching this calmly and realistically. We know that to build experience, situational awareness, and intuition – which develop mainly in racing conditions – we need starts. That’s why the upcoming World Cup in Mallorca is primarily a stage for gaining experience as a team and learning to handle tight, demanding situations at marks and on the course. Of course, since we are competing, we will aim to perform as best as we can, but this is not our main goal. For now, the focus is on development, learning, and gaining experience, which – we hope – will pay off at the World Championships in France in May – adds Dominik.
In the women’s 49erFX class (62 boats), four Polish crews will compete: Aleksandra Melzacka and Sandra Jankowiak (YKP Gdynia/AZS Poznań), Gabriela Czapska and Hanna Rajchert (KS Spójnia Warszawa), as well as younger duos who last autumn took 2nd and 3rd place at the Junior European Championships – Ewa Lewandowska and Anna Zwara (AZS AWFiS Gdańsk/MKŻ Arka Gdynia) and Klara Sobczak and Magdalena Skórnóg (Chojnicki Klub Żeglarski/Nauticus Yacht Club Olsztyn).
In the iQFOiL men’s class (125 sailors), five Poles will compete: Igor Lewiński (KS AWFiS Gdańsk), Paweł Tarnowski, Stanisław Trepczyński, and Leon Jankowski (all SKŻ Sopot) and Jakub Guźlecki (Centrum Żeglarskie Szczecin).
Among 76 women, competitors will include Anastasiya Valkevich, Maja Autenrieth (formerly Dziarnowska), and Aleksandra Wasiewicz (all SKŻ Sopot).
The ILCA 7 class again sees record participation, with 201 sailors. Among them, seven Poles: Filip Olszewski (AZS UW), Maciej Dudek (Nauticus YC Olsztyn), Piotr Malinowski (SSW MOS Iława), Tadeusz Kubiak (SEJK Pogoń Szczecin), Hubert Roszyk (ŻLKS Poznań), Filip Ciszkiewicz (MKŻ Arka Gdynia), and Jan Rohde (SSW MOS Iława).
In the ILCA 6 class, we will see PGE Sailing Team Poland Ambassadors – Agata Barwińska (SSW MOS Iława) and Wiktoria Gołębiowska (UKŻ Wiking Toruń), as well as Magdalena Kwaśna (Chojnicki Klub Żeglarski) – a Tokyo Olympian who returned to competition last year after a longer break. The line-up also includes Lilly May Niezabitowska (UKS Kotwica Tarnobrzeg) and Zofia Wójcik (KU AZS UW), totaling 140 competitors.
In the Formula Kite Men class (58 sailors), Poland will be represented by: Jan Marciniak (KS AQUA Włocławek), Jan Koszowski and Marcel Stępniewski (SKŻ Sopot), and Piotr Szymiec (AZS Poznań).
Among women (35 competitors), Polish sailors include Julia Damasiewicz (AZS Poznań), Izabela Satrjan (UKŻ Wiking Toruń), and Karolina Jankowska (SKŻ Sopot).
The regatta will run traditionally until Holy Saturday, April 4, serving as the first major test of the season for the world’s elite and the Polish National Team on the road to the most important 2026 events.
