Poland charts course for sailing development in strategic talks with World Sailing
At the invitation of Minister of Sport and Tourism Jakub Rutnicki, a high-level meeting was held in Warsaw with the President of the Polish Yachting Association (PYA), Tomasz Holc, and Vice President of World Sailing, Tomasz Chamera. The talks centered on key development directions for Polish sailing, current sector challenges, and joint efforts to promote water sports nationwide.

A focal point of the discussion was PGE PolSailing – Poland’s nationwide sailing education programme for children and youth. The initiative aims to build sailing competencies from the grassroots level and is regarded as a strategic tool in shaping the future of the sport in the country.
The meeting also explored the growing potential of eSailing as a complementary and accessible platform to engage broader audiences, especially younger demographics. In line with global trends, the digitalisation of sailing certifications and licences was addressed as a priority area for improving access and efficiency within the sport’s administrative infrastructure.
Attention was further given to investment in sailing infrastructure, with an emphasis on supporting local clubs and training centres across Poland. This aligns with national strategies to increase participation and performance in sailing, particularly in Olympic and youth classes.
Strategic preparations are also underway for the 2027 World Sailing Championships, for which Gdynia will serve as one of the co-host cities. The event is expected to be one of the most significant international regattas ever staged in Poland and represents a major opportunity to position the country as a competitive venue on the global sailing map.
The meeting highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between government bodies and the sailing community to ensure sustainable growth, talent development, and international visibility for Polish sailing.
