Local content strengthened amid rising market interest in Poland’s energy transition

The second edition of workshops dedicated to integrating Polish companies into the supply chains of major energy projects confirmed growing market interest and increasing readiness of regional enterprises to participate in offshore wind and nuclear power developments. The event took place on 3 February in Gdańsk and was jointly organised by Polish Nuclear Power Plants (PEJ), PGE Baltica and the Industrial Development Agency (ARP), under the honorary patronage of the Pomeranian Voivode and the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Large-scale energy investments currently being developed in northern Poland – including offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea and the country’s first nuclear power plant at Lubiatowo-Kopalino – offer local companies long-term business opportunities, stable contracts and the chance to develop new industrial competencies.

– The scale of energy projects implemented in the Pomeranian region creates opportunities for local companies to secure long-term contracts and develop new specialisations. Growing interest in supply chains, combined with experience gained in offshore wind projects, confirms that Polish enterprises are ready to participate in major energy investments – said Piotr Dziubałtowski, Vice President for Operations at PGE Baltica.

A key focus of the workshops was the practical implementation of local content policies. Discussions centred on contractual requirements, certification standards and quality expectations necessary for participation in nuclear and offshore wind projects.

– Our objective is to include as many Polish – including Pomeranian – companies as possible in the supply chain for the broadly understood implementation of the nuclear investment. We see that domestic enterprises are not only willing to participate, but also prepared to acquire the required competencies and certifications – emphasised Piotr Piela, Vice President of Polish Nuclear Power Plants.

Institutional support plays a crucial role in preparing companies for participation in strategic energy projects. During the workshops, participants learned about a wide range of financial and development instruments, including development funds, loans, advisory services and access to industrial infrastructure.

– The second edition of the workshops demonstrates how important the involvement of local capital, competencies and entrepreneurship is for the successful delivery of strategic energy investments. At the Industrial Development Agency, we actively support Polish companies in entering the supply chains of offshore and nuclear projects – said Krzysztof Telega, Vice President of ARP.

Strong interest was also noted in investment land and real estate offers prepared by economic zones and local authorities, aimed at companies planning to expand their operations in the Pomeranian region.

Representatives of institutions supporting regional economic development – including ARP, the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone, InvestGda, the Polish Investment and Trade Agency and regional development funds – presented their initiatives to strengthen the participation of domestic companies in offshore wind and nuclear projects.

– Every initiative that strengthens the regional economy will have my full support as a representative of the central government in the region – stated Beata Rutkiewicz, Voivode of Pomerania.

Summing up the discussions, Leszek Bonna, Vice-Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, stressed the long-term and integrated nature of the energy transition.

– Nuclear power, offshore wind, grids, energy storage and hydrogen are not separate projects. They form one coherent process of rebuilding the energy system and strengthening security. Practical local content means real contracts, jobs and competencies developed here, in the region – he concluded.
