On 28 January 2026, British shipping line Ellerman City Liners will inaugurate its new BALTEX short sea service. The weekly rotation will link Gdynia with Teesport and Tilbury in the United Kingdom, as well as Riga, Rotterdam, and Oslo, placing the Polish port at the centre of the carrier’s Baltic network.
Expanding short sea connectivity in the Baltic Sea region
The launch of BALTEX responds to growing market demand for reliable, frequent short sea services across the Baltic Sea. Integrated with Ellerman’s existing network, the service will also facilitate cargo flows between Baltic ports and Southern Europe, including Portugal and Spain.
According to the carrier, sustainability is a key pillar of the new service. By shifting cargo from road to sea, BALTEX can deliver CO₂ emission reductions of up to 50%, supporting greener logistics chains across Northern Europe.

Gateway to the United States via the UK
In addition to strengthening European connectivity, the new and existing services between Gdynia, the United Kingdom, and Western European ports provide efficient transit options for Polish exports to the United States. Through transhipment in British ports onto vessels operated by the same carrier, cargo can reach New York in approximately 16 days, offering a competitive transit time for transatlantic trade.
