Hel Peninsula fully booked for the August long weekend. Sun, sea and naval parade to attract thousands

Accommodation on the Hel Peninsula is virtually sold out for the upcoming August long weekend. Hotels and guesthouses in Hel, Jurata and Jastarnia have been fully booked for weeks, with only a handful of single-night stays – mainly for 16–17 August – still available on booking platforms as of Tuesday afternoon. Overnight stays from 15 to 16 August are almost entirely unavailable.

The Hel Peninsula remains one of the most popular summer destinations on the Polish coast, with the August holiday weekend consistently drawing record visitor numbers. According to Łukasz Magrian, general director of the Pomeranian Regional Tourism Organisation, the hospitality sector reported exceptionally high booking levels as early as a week and a half ago – particularly in properties offering all-inclusive services. Remaining vacancies can mostly be found in private rentals or accommodation located further inland.

Weather forecast: ideal for tourism

The upcoming weekend is expected to be exceptionally hot, with forecasters predicting temperatures above 27°C, clear skies and perfect beach conditions. Warm Baltic waters, light winds and no rainfall are set to further boost water sports and outdoor activities, potentially drawing even more last-minute visitors.

Hel – centre of Polish Armed Forces Day maritime celebrations

One of the main highlights of the long weekend will be the naval parade held on 15 August as part of Poland’s central Armed Forces Day celebrations. At around noon, approximately 20 Navy vessels will take part in a maritime display in the waters off Hel, including frigates, corvettes, mine destroyers, a submarine, a landing ship-minelayer, as well as rescue and hydrographic units. The display will also feature helicopters and aircraft from the Naval Aviation Brigade.

Spectators will be able to view the parade from the Hel Peninsula’s tip and the beachfront promenade. From 11:00 to 16:00, the Hel waterfront will host a dedicated military zone, offering opportunities to meet service members, view military equipment, enjoy performances by military bands and sample traditional pea soup.
