White Sails Over Gdańsk Bay: Tricky Start to the Gdynia City Cup
The Gdańsk Bay filled with white sails yesterday as the Gdynia City Cup got underway in ILCA 4, ILCA 6, and ILCA 7 classes. The opening day of racing was marked by low wind conditions and persistent fog, making for a technically demanding and strategically cautious regatta.

Despite the weather challenges, the race committee managed to complete two of the three scheduled races. The diminishing wind and worsening visibility eventually forced an early end to the day on the water. Starts were executed smoothly, with very few false starts across the fleet — a testament to the sailors’ professionalism and focus.
Klimaszewski Takes Command in ILCA 7
In the ILCA 7 class, Stanisław Klimaszewski delivered an impressive performance, securing victories in both races and taking a solid early lead. Filip Olszewski follows in second place with a 4-point deficit, while Maksymilian Burdziej holds third.
Women Dominate the ILCA 6 Leaderboard
The ILCA 6 class saw strong competition at the top, with female athletes sweeping the podium positions after Day 1. Julia Maziarz leads the fleet, closely followed by seasoned sailor Magdalena Kwaśna, just one point behind. Kinga Szlachetka sits in third, trailing by a single point as well — setting the stage for a tightly contested series.
- Conditions today were extremely tough, said Polish National Team sailor Hanna Rogowska. - We stayed ashore at first because of strong wind, rain, and thick fog. Eventually the weather cleared a bit, but the fog remained, making it difficult to spot gusts or course marks. It really required full concentration. Rogowska concluded the day in 16th place. - My first race went well, but the second was more difficult. Ultimately, only two races were completed due to fading wind and poor visibility.
Tight Margins in ILCA 4
The ILCA 4 class standings are equally close. Piotr Malitowski leads the pack after two races, with Hanna Olejniczak just one point behind. Łucja Borkowska follows in third, only two points off the lead — underscoring the finely balanced level of competition.
Despite adverse weather, race management kept the event running efficiently and safely. With more racing scheduled and a high level of talent on the water, the coming days promise close duels and shifting leaderboards — provided conditions allow the full schedule to be completed.
