West Pomerania Invests in Inland Waterway Transport - New Water Tram Season Connects Three Key Ports

The West Pomeranian Voivodeship is launching a new chapter in sustainable regional transport and water tourism. Starting June 28, a newly established municipal waterway line will operate between Szczecin, Nowe Warpno, and Świnoujście, connecting three strategic locations along the Oder River and the Szczecin Lagoon. The initiative, supported by the regional government and operated by the Police County authority, reflects growing interest in revitalizing inland navigation as a viable transport and tourism corridor.

Weekly sailings will be available every Saturday and Sunday through August 24, offering residents and tourists an alternative and scenic travel option through some of the most naturally and historically significant areas in north-western Poland.

Let this be your season aboard the "Queen of Szczecin", said Marshal Olgierd Geblewicz, highlighting the flagship vessel serving the route.

The project aligns with broader efforts by West Pomerania to enhance intermodal connections, reduce road congestion in tourist hotspots, and promote eco-friendly modes of transport. Local officials also underline the economic potential of the route, especially in linking smaller ports to major urban centers and enhancing the accessibility of local tourist infrastructure.

The West Pomeranian Water Tramway forms part of a long-term vision to better integrate the region’s inland and coastal waterways into daily mobility and seasonal tourism strategies. As inland shipping gains renewed attention across the EU, West Pomerania positions itself as a proactive player in sustainable maritime development.
