Tom Cruise received this prestigious honor for his outstanding contributions to raising awareness and appreciation for the work of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps personnel through his film roles, particularly in the Top Gun series. The original 1986 film significantly boosted Navy recruitment numbers, while its sequel, Top Gun: Maverick (2022), reignited interest in military service among younger audiences.

During the ceremony, Cruise expressed pride in receiving the award and emphasized his respect for military service, stating.

I admire all soldiers and sailors. I know that in life, the truth is that to lead is to serve. And I know this deeply. I see it in the military services.

Notably, in 2020, Cruise was named the 36th Honorary Naval Aviator of the U.S. Navy, further highlighting his dedication to promoting the armed forces through his work in cinema.

In addition to the Top Gun series, Cruise has been recognized for his roles in films such as Born on the Fourth of July, A Few Good Men, and the Mission: Impossible series. His contributions to cinema not only provide entertainment but also inspire new generations to serve and sacrifice.

Cruise continues his acting career, with the next installment of the Mission: Impossible series scheduled for release in May 2025.
