Production of Baltica 2 foundation components to take place in Poland

PGE and Ørsted have signed a contract for the production and delivery of additional secondary steel components for the offshore wind farm Baltica 2. The manufacturing of these key elements will be carried out in Poland.

The suspended internal platforms will be supplied by Smulders. Production will take place in Żary (Lubusz Voivodeship), with final assembly and outfitting set for Świnoujście on the Baltic coast.

These secondary steel structures are essential for ensuring safe access to the wind turbine and switchgear by operational teams conducting technical interventions.

Utilizing Polish manufacturing facilities and the expertise of local professionals is another step toward boosting the contribution of Polish industry to this major offshore wind program.”

Though Poland is a new market for offshore wind, local content already stands at approximately 20%, highlighting the strong momentum of domestic involvement. We are proud to help shape the future of renewable energy in Poland in collaboration with Ørsted and PGE.

Smulders, part of Eiffage Métal, is a multidisciplinary construction group employing over 2,000 people across Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the UK. The company specializes in full engineering, manufacturing, and system integration for offshore wind. In Poland, Smulders employs around 700 people at its facilities in the Lubusz and Opole regions.

Baltica 2 officially entered the offshore construction phase earlier this year. Seabed preparation for foundation installation and subsea cable laying is set to begin shortly. Onshore grid infrastructure has been under construction in Choczewo since mid-2024. PGE and Ørsted have made the final investment decision and secured all necessary construction permits. All key components and installation contracts for foundations, cables, turbines, and offshore substations are in place. With 107 turbines totaling 1.5 GW of capacity, Baltica 2 will play a vital role in Poland’s energy transition.
