PolSca Baltic Ferries: a new chapter in Polish ferry shipping

On May 16, 2025, in Szczecin, a landmark development was announced: the launch of PolSca Baltic Ferries, a strategic partnership between Unity Line (representing Polska Żegluga Morska Group and Euroafrica) and Polferries (Polska Żegluga Bałtycka). Strategic alignment in the ferry sector

PolSca Baltic Ferries was created in response to the evolving demands of the Baltic ferry market, the need for operational efficiency, and the increasing focus on sustainable, high-quality transport services. The initiative is not a formal merger but a harmonized operational alliance that focuses on synergy, investment, and coordinated development.

The brand aims to deliver:

  • an expanded and integrated route network between Poland and Scandinavia,
  • joint investment in modern, environmentally friendly vessels,
  • consistent standards for customer service and safety,
  • improved competitiveness and market visibility.

A name that carries meaning

The name PolSca—a portmanteau of Polska and Scandinavia—sends a clear signal: this is a project born in Poland with a regional vision. The use of "c" instead of "k" is deliberate, providing both linguistic accessibility and branding originality.

Arkadiusz Marchewka, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure, underlined the symbolic significance during the press conference:

- Poland is making waves on the Baltic—literally. Our ferry operators have signed an agreement and will now sail under a unified brand: PolSca. It’s a brilliantly simple name—PolSca, with a ‘c’, symbolizing the link from Poland to Scandinavia. Yesterday, we announced a program to build new ferries; today, we’re announcing the cooperation of ferry operators. The goal is clear: to give Polish shipping real influence in the Baltic market. The Baltic will be Polish.

Building maritime strength through cooperation

The launch of PolSca aligns with the Polish government’s broader investment program in ferry construction and maritime modernization. By consolidating efforts, both companies aim to accelerate fleet renewal, improve service delivery, and strengthen Poland’s position in northern European transport corridors.

A forward-looking brand for the Baltic

PolSca Baltic Ferries is set to redefine expectations in Baltic ferry operations by blending tradition, expertise, and innovation. The integration process is underway with full consideration for passenger comfort and business continuity—all current reservations remain valid.

This is only the beginning. In the months ahead, additional operational and organizational details will be clarified. But one message is already clear: PolSca represents a new, unified vision for ferry transport in the Baltic Sea.
