Contract signed for seabed clearance ahead of new breakwater in Świnoujście
The Maritime Office in Szczecin has signed a contract for a key preparatory stage of the construction of the breakwater for the new outer port in Świnoujście. The project involves clearing the seabed of hazardous military-origin objects in the area designated for the emerging deep-water port infrastructure. The signing ceremony was attended by Arkadiusz Marchewka, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure.

The contract was awarded to a consortium comprising Przedsiębiorstwo Robót Czerpalnych i Podwodnych Sp. z o.o. of Gdańsk (lead partner) and Henryk Moroz “PIROMOR” from Kościerzyna. The clearance works will cover a 162-hectare area where detailed magnetometric scanning identified more than 4,800 ferromagnetic anomalies — potential remnants of wartime activity lying on or beneath the seabed. Detecting, recovering and neutralising such objects is essential to ensure safe conditions for the upcoming breakwater construction and for the wider development of the Świnoujście Outer Port.
The contract includes the inspection, recovery and disposal of all identified objects. Its execution period is eight months, and its value is approximately PLN 22.8 million.
Arkadiusz Marchewka highlighted the strategic dimension of the investment for the Polish maritime sector:
- We have signed the contract for clearing the seabed in the area where Cape Pomerania will be built. Nearly 5,000 objects must be recovered from the 162-hectare zone. Step by step, we are advancing this key investment for Poland’s maritime economy.
The breakwater project is one of the core components of the multi-annual programme “Construction and expansion of access infrastructure to the Port of Świnoujście 2023–2029.” According to the current schedule, the main hydrotechnical works related to the breakwater for the new outer port are planned for 2027–2029.
The seabed-clearance contract marks a significant milestone in preparing the site for one of the most important port-infrastructure developments in the Baltic region — a project expected to strengthen Świnoujście’s cargo-handling capacity, improve navigational safety and enhance Poland’s competitive position in the maritime economy.
