The launch followed true maritime tradition – complete with a godmother, the breaking of a bottle on the bow, and no shortage of heartfelt emotions as the vessel touched the water of Lake Dąbie for the first time.
The yacht, built over several months in the school’s workshop, represents more than just craftsmanship. It is the result of teamwork, persistence, and a deep passion for sailing. Students were involved in every stage of the process – from design and woodworking to final assembly – gaining invaluable hands-on experience in marine construction.
As the school noted, “While our fellow countryman was taking his first steps on the International Space Station, our students were taking their first steps aboard a small vessel called ‘DORSZ.’ It’s a small step toward greater things. History is being written before our eyes.”
The launch of “DORSZ” is a powerful example of how education can go beyond the classroom. It illustrates the impact of project-based learning in inspiring the next generation of marine professionals and engineers.
This initiative marks a milestone not only for the students and their school, but also for maritime education in the region. The project has already sparked interest as a potential model for integrating practical boatbuilding into secondary education.
Kudos to the entire team – for their technical skill, perseverance, and for launching a project that truly embodies the spirit of maritime craftsmanship.
