The 1.4 GW Sofia Offshore Wind Farm, scheduled to become operational in 2026, will supply clean renewable energy to approximately 1.2 million UK households. As one of the largest offshore wind projects in Europe, Sofia demonstrates the rapid growth of large-scale renewable infrastructure in the North Sea region.
In addition to foundation installation, Van Oord is also progressing with the installation and burial of over 360 kilometers of array cables, connecting turbines to offshore substations. The work is being conducted according to strict engineering and environmental standards, ensuring safe and efficient project delivery.
Van Oord is a global leader in offshore wind, dredging, and coastal engineering, headquartered in Rotterdam. Its modern fleet includes installation vessels, dredgers, and cable-laying ships. The company’s involvement in the Sofia project underscores its pivotal role in the global energy transition and the sustainable development of maritime industries.
