Bechtel signs contract with Doraco for Poland’s first nuclear power plant
Bechtel, the lead contractor for Poland’s first nuclear power plant in the Choczewo municipality and a partner in the Bechtel-Westinghouse consortium, announced the signing of a contract with Polish company Doraco. The agreement covers construction works and support services for the second and third phases of geological and geotechnical surveys for the Lubiatowo-Kopalino project.

The contractor selection process followed a best value model, including prequalification and technical and commercial assessment, taking into account technical capabilities, experience, and pricing.
A key component of the project
Geological and geotechnical surveys are essential for designing the plant’s structures and infrastructure. The first phase, completed last year, involved the deepest geotechnical investigations in the area planned for three nuclear islands. The second phase will cover land areas designated for auxiliary buildings and supporting infrastructure. The third phase will focus on marine and coastal areas, including surveys required for the design of the MOLF (marine offloading facility), which will handle heavy components of the plant.
Under the contract, Doraco will provide site infrastructure and support for the surveys, without conducting the geotechnical studies themselves. Scope of work includes: maintaining temporary offices and facilities, providing utilities and fuel, technical support, constructing 13 drilling platforms, temporary access roads, and logistical and medical support. Approximately 1,000 survey points are planned for phases II and III. Work is set to begin in May 2026 and is expected to be completed by Q2 2027.
Real involvement of Polish companies
- The contract confirms the tangible involvement of Polish companies in the project, and we have gained another strong partner from Pomerania - said Leszek Hołda, CEO of Bechtel Poland. - Conducting the next phases of geological surveys requires an efficient site infrastructure. Collaboration with Doraco will ensure the necessary conditions for the surveys, which form the foundation for further project work.
- Energy transformation is not only about new capacity, but also new competencies and responsibility for national security - said Angelika Cieślowska, CEO of Doraco. – Working with Bechtel on the nuclear program is a real contribution to critical infrastructure and the development of Poland’s supply chain. Local content for us means know-how, quality, and lasting value remaining in Poland.
- We are at a unique moment in our country’s history. Poland’s economy is becoming a global market player, and this is evident in our project - emphasized Marek Woszczyk, CEO of Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe. - I am pleased that Bechtel, part of the American consortium, has signed another agreement with an experienced Polish company. We support this cooperation to ensure it is fruitful and beneficial for all parties.
Symbolic significance
The “Atomic Opportunities” conference in Gdańsk brought together numerous companies from Pomerania and across Poland interested in participating in the country’s first nuclear power plant. Presentations by experts from PEJ, Bechtel, and Westinghouse highlighted technical and quality requirements and the integration of local companies into the project supply chain. The Bechtel-Doraco contract is a practical example of this collaboration, underscoring the growing role of Polish companies in a strategic energy investment.
