State-of-the-art infrastructure for larger vessels
The scope of works included the construction of a new 57-meter pier, redevelopment and extension of the Gdynia Quay (316 meters in length), and the creation of a dock basin with a depth of 17 meters. Additionally, new technical systems were installed, such as power supply networks, technical gas lines, modern lighting, and video surveillance systems.
This modernization prepares the yard to receive the new floating dock No. 8, scheduled for commissioning in Q2 2027, which will replace the current dock No. 1. The new dock will enable Gryfia to handle vessels of up to 80,000 DWT, significantly boosting its service portfolio.
- Completing this modernization is not only about renewing our facilities, but above all, about investing in the future. With the new pier, extended quays, and docking facilities, we are building a foundation for our next growth phase. Dock No. 8 will become the centerpiece of our operations, allowing us to provide services at the highest global level, said Daniel Opas, CEO of Gryfia Shiprepair Yard S.A.
Advanced marine engineering challenges
DORACO executed a wide range of hydrotechnical, civil, and installation works, including the construction of a new service pier with crane tracks and mooring equipment, seabed deepening, piling works with 30-meter steel piles and sheet walls, as well as reinforced concrete structures built under challenging hydrological conditions.
- We are proud to close such a complex marine engineering project that opens new horizons for Gryfia Shipyard. This investment represents a qualitative leap for the Polish ship repair sector. The new dock will undoubtedly generate tangible benefits for the economy of Western Pomerania and support the growing demand in maritime transport and offshore industries, emphasized Angelika Cieślowska, CEO of DORACO.
A foundation for growth
The modernization provides a solid foundation for Gryfia’s long-term development, enabling the shipyard to meet future market demands. The arrival of floating dock No. 8 in 2027 will be a milestone not only for the company but also for the city of Szczecin and the entire maritime industry in Western Pomerania.
