Green energy boom drives business transformation. cPPAs lead the way as data centers and local governments join th

The Polish market for corporate power purchase agreements (cPPAs) is experiencing unprecedented growth – and this is just the beginning. According to the latest Poland’s Renewable Energy Awakening report, the national demand for cPPAs could soon reach as high as 13.3 TWh. Over the past two years alone, contracts covering over 1.5 GW of installed PV capacity have been signed – mostly by industrial consumers. The message is clear: businesses are embracing clean, local, and predictable energy as a cornerstone of their energy strategies.

On October 8–9 in Warsaw, RE-Source Poland 2025, the region’s leading business-focused renewable energy conference, will gather key stakeholders from the public and private sectors to discuss the opportunities and regulatory challenges shaping the cPPA landscape in Poland and across Central Europe.

Data centers: at the heart of the green transition

The future of energy in the region cannot be discussed without addressing the rapidly growing data center industry. These facilities are among the most energy-intensive infrastructure components, with projections showing that Polish operators could reach up to 500 MW in power demand by 2030.

As one of the largest consumers of electricity, the data center sector is emerging as a critical player in Poland’s energy transition. Access to low-cost, renewable energy is essential for attracting digital investments, and Poland has the potential to become a key hub for the region.

- Poland can become the digital gateway of Central and Eastern Europe. The availability of green energy significantly boosts the country's competitiveness in the data economy. However, fast-tracked regulatory reforms and grid modernization are essential. Without them, investors may look elsewhere, said Szymon Kowalski, vice-president of the RE-Source Poland Hub Foundation.

Municipalities enter the PPA market – the case of Łódź

Green energy is no longer the exclusive domain of corporations. Municipalities are now also turning to PPAs to protect their budgets from volatile energy prices and advance local sustainability goals. A pioneering example is Łódź, which – in partnership with RE-Source Poland Hub – has initiated the country’s first public-sector cPPA framework.

The project envisions securing 15 GWh of electricity from a mix of wind and solar sources, while also developing standardized procedures for local governments to participate in corporate-style renewable energy contracting.

For local authorities, cPPAs represent not only a path toward climate neutrality, but also a pragmatic tool for long-term financial stability and local energy development.

New rules, new skills – practical balancing workshop

As part of RE-Source Poland 2025, a dedicated workshop on energy balancing will be held, covering:

  • The updated balancing market structure and services,
  • Pricing of energy and capacity reserves,
  • The impact of 15-minute settlement periods on energy strategies.

The training will be delivered in English to ensure accessibility for international stakeholders – from producers and investors to end users seeking to enter Poland’s rapidly evolving energy market.

Why RE-Source Poland 2025 matters

Now in its fifth edition, RE-Source Poland 2025 has become the most important industry platform for renewable energy buyers and producers in Central and Eastern Europe. The event will bring together leaders from the energy, ICT, industrial, and municipal sectors, alongside policymakers and regulators.

This year’s agenda features:

  • Expert panels on cPPAs, new regulations (including the EU OMNIBUS and ESG packages),
  • In-depth case studies from across the region,
  • Practical workshops and networking sessions,
  • Strategic debates on the future of the European Green Deal and supply chain decarbonization.

Whether you're a market veteran or an emerging player exploring clean energy procurement, RE-Source Poland 2025 will offer practical insights, regulatory updates, and business-critical connections to power your next move in the energy transition.
