Kaiaua will join PMNZ’s existing Damen ASD Tug 2111 Kaiana, positioning the port’s towage fleet as the most modern in the country. This strategic investment reflects PMNZ’s commitment to ensuring safe, reliable, and future-proof towage services for one of New Zealand’s key maritime hubs.
Crucially, the new tug will feature Damen’s Marine NOX Reduction System, enabling a reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 80%. With this addition, PMNZ is proactively exceeding environmental regulatory requirements, showcasing leadership in the drive toward more sustainable port operations.
The arrival of Kaiaua marks a significant step forward in PMNZ’s fleet renewal programme, reinforcing its operational capabilities while aligning with global efforts to decarbonise the maritime sector.
