Polish Parliament Flag Presented to Maritime Border Guard Unit

A special ceremony took place on July 3 at the Kashubian Division of the Polish Border Guard in Gdańsk-Westerplatte, where the Maritime Division of the Border Guard (MOSG) was formally presented with the national flag of the Republic of Poland by the Speaker of the Sejm, Mr. Szymon Hołownia.

This was no ordinary flag—it had previously flown atop the dome of the Sejm's main chamber, symbolizing the legislative heart of the Polish state. In the presence of high-ranking officials, including Brig. Gen. Tomasz Michalski, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Border Guard, and Pomeranian Voivode Beata Rutkiewicz, the flag was handed over to Rear Adm. SG Andrzej Prokopski, Commander of the Maritime Border Guard.

- This flag stood above the place where Polish law is made, said Speaker Szymon Hołownia. - By handing it to the Maritime Division, we are also passing on our full trust and gratitude for your service. The Sejm is the heart of the Republic—and you are its guardians on the sea.

Following the official handover, a ceremonial hoisting of the flag took place. Rear Adm. Prokopski highlighted the symbolic weight of this distinction.

- For us, members of the Border Guard, the national flag is a solemn reminder of our oath—to defend the borders of the Polish state, even at the risk of our lives, said Prokopski. - It will be placed in a position of honor in our Hall of Traditions and will accompany us during state ceremonies and official events.

The initiative to distribute flags from the Sejm's dome began in 2024 as part of a national campaign launched by Speaker Hołownia. To date, 310 flags have been passed on to service organizations, military units, rescue services, and scouting groups—entities symbolizing commitment and public service.

As part of his visit, Speaker Hołownia also toured the unit’s latest offshore patrol vessel, SG-301 General Józef Haller, which represents the cutting edge of Poland’s maritime border protection capabilities. The Speaker concluded his visit by signing the vessel’s commemorative guest book.
