Cape Pomerania. New offshore port to rise in Świnoujście
At the gala marking the 75th anniversary of the ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście, Jarosław Siergiej, CEO of Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority (ZMPSiŚ SA), unveiled the vision of a major infrastructure project: the construction of an offshore port in Świnoujście, with a state-of-the-art container terminal as its first stage. The development, branded Cape Pomerania, will create 186 hectares of new land reclaimed from the sea.

Container terminal as the first milestone
According to Infrastructure Minister Arkadiusz Marchewka, the priority is to complete the container terminal, designed to handle the largest transoceanic vessels entering the Baltic – up to 400 meters in length. Around 70 hectares of the newly created land will be allocated for the terminal, while the remainder will be reclaimed using dredged material from fairway deepening works.
– By 2029, we expect to finalize the container terminal and integrated breakwater. That will mark the emergence of a new 186-hectare landmass – a new chapter for Poland’s maritime future – emphasized Minister Marchewka.
New fairway and long-term opportunities
The project also includes a new 65-kilometer-long, 17-meter-deep approach channel to Świnoujście, ensuring accessibility for the world’s largest ocean-going vessels. While the terminal is the immediate focus, Cape Pomerania is envisioned as a long-term growth platform for multiple port-related activities.
– This is not only about one terminal, but about creating room for decades of port development, Marchewka added.
Project partners and scale
The investment is estimated at over PLN 10 billion. The container terminal infrastructure will be developed by a consortium of Qatari and Belgian companies, while the maritime works will be carried out by the Maritime Office in Szczecin.
Cape Pomerania is set to become both a strategic gateway for container traffic and a bold symbol of Poland’s expanding presence in global maritime logistics.
