Plotting a winning course – is Lechia sailing away from the bottom?
From the opening whistle, the encounter resembled sailing through heavy seas. Lechia, weighed down by negative points in the table, knew they had to set a winning course to escape the early-season shallows. Arka attempted to seize the helm, but their attacking forays kept crashing against Lechia’s sturdy defensive bulwark.
The decisive maneuver came just five minutes before the final whistle. A pinpoint cross from Matúš Vojtko met the head of Dawid Kurminowski, and the striker delivered the crucial blow. Gdynia’s side tried to respond, threatening in stoppage time, but goalkeeper Szymon Weirauch stood firm on the line, commanding his ship through the storm.
Roaring like a tempest – the sound of 37,500 voices
The atmosphere inside the arena was electric. From early morning, Gdańsk and Gdynia were awash with football fever. Streets in Gdańsk turned white and green, while in Gdynia the yellow-and-blue faithful prepared for their short voyage across the bay.
On the stands, 37,500 voices created a roaring tempest. Lechia’s fans unveiled striking choreography, while the 1,800 Arka supporters in the away end made themselves heard. The stadium became an arena not just for players, but for two proud port crews. “Tri-City is ours,” roared the Gdańsk faithful, a chorus they will repeat proudly until the return fixture in Gdynia.

The derby balance sheet – Lechia’s dominance continues
Lechia’s victory marked their eighth consecutive derby triumph. Arka have not won in Gdańsk since 2008, underlining the white-and-greens’ current supremacy in the Tri-City rivalry. Ambition was not lacking on the Gdynia side, but the formula to break the streak remains elusive. Their next chance will come in the return fixture in Gdynia, unless fate brings another clash in the Polish Cup.
Wind in Lechia’s sails, a lesson for Arka
For Lechia, the victory carried double weight – symbolic and practical. It allowed the club to erase their negative points tally and set sail with momentum into the next rounds of the Ekstraklasa. Arka return to Gdynia with a hull full of lessons and the realization that in football’s battleship game, patience alone won’t sink an opponent – only bold, accurate strikes can.
In the waters of the Gulf of Gdańsk, the Tri-City Derby is never just another match. It is a naval boarding action where one crew must go below deck. This time, Arka had to concede: they were hit and sunk, as Lechia’s flag waved proudly from the masts of the Polsat Plus Arena.
