Trawler near Baltic pipeline: Polish Border Guard neutralizes maritime provocations
Baltic Sea under 24/7 surveillance – critical infrastructure protected. The vessel, located 18 nautical miles north of Władysławowo, reduced speed and entered the zone of critical energy infrastructure. After radio warnings, the trawler left the area and headed northwest at a speed of 10 knots.
Around-the-clock monitoring of the Baltic Sea
- In the current situation, vessel traffic in the Baltic is under continuous 24/7 surveillance by the Maritime Border Guard Division. Operators primarily monitor strategic areas, including critical infrastructure. Thanks to immediate response, ships and trawlers in close proximity to these zones leave the area without delay, said Tadeusz Gruchalla from the Press Office of the Maritime Border Guard in Gdańsk.
Rising maritime provocations
In recent years, activity in critical zones has increased, including so-called shadow fleets conducting hazardous maneuvers near pipelines and undersea telecommunications cables.
Continuous Border Guard monitoring allows for rapid identification and response to any incidents, minimizing risks to energy and telecommunications infrastructure in the Baltic Sea.
