President-elect Donald Trump announces renaming of the Gulf of Mexico

Trump made this announcement during his first press conference following Congress' certification of his electoral victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. The event took place at Mar-a-Lago.
Immediate reaction from Mexican authorities: "Mexican America"
- I think the president-elect Trump has been poorly advised. Perhaps someone told him that Felipe Calderón is still the president - commented Claudia Sheinbaum, who has served as Mexico's president since October 1, 2024. - But no, Mexico is led by other people now - she added.
Trump also announced plans to impose high tariffs on Mexican goods, arguing that the country is heavily influenced by cartels.
