PZŻ Cup sets sail in harsh conditions on the Vistula Lagoon

Sailors faced a true endurance challenge, braving gusty, unpredictable winds, driving rain, and temperatures dipping below 10°C. The young athletes of the Techno 293 class described the day as one of the most demanding in recent memory.
– Enduring the cold was one thing, but the wind kept changing – one moment it was so strong we were all falling into the water, the next it died down completely. It was shifting constantly, and we couldn’t feel our fingers – reported Maja Woszczyna, Tymian Hawrylewicz-Czarnowski, and Jędrzej Górski.
Despite the adverse conditions, several races were successfully held across a diverse range of classes: Techno 293, Omega, 505, Nautica 450, OK Dinghy, and O’pen Skiff.
– The synoptic situation created highly unstable conditions. We were dealing with variable and gusty winds combined with persistent rainfall throughout the day. The key was to capitalize on short weather windows to properly set the course – explained Jan Krzyżak, Omega class race officer and on-water coordinator for the PZŻ Cup.
The PZŻ Cup remains one of the flagship events in the Polish sailing calendar, bringing together seasoned competitors and rising talents on one of the most technically challenging inland waters in the region. The regatta will continue throughout the weekend.
A full recap of Day 1, including leaderboard updates and tactical insights from the course, is available on the event website.
