Polish armed forces invest in artificial intelligence. AI implementation center established
The digital transformation of the military is accelerating. In Legionowo, the establishment of the artificial intelligence implementation center (CISI) was announced, which will operate under the cyber defense forces component command. The decision to create this center was announced on March 3rd by deputy prime minister and minister of national defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz during a meeting with soldiers of the cyber defense forces.

A groundbreaking step for national security
The AI implementation center is a key element of the AI development strategy within the Polish armed forces, adopted by the ministry of national defense. This strategy outlines a roadmap extending to 2039, with a crucial five-year period dedicated to establishing Poland’s technological advantage in military artificial intelligence.
“Today, we are making a decision based on the strategy I signed a few weeks ago, proposed by minister Cezary Tomczyk – a strategy for the development of artificial intelligence. (…) It is being established within the cyber defense forces component command under the leadership of general Molenda, his deputies, and the best team of IT specialists and cybersecurity experts in Poland,” emphasized Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Tasks of the new center
CISI will be responsible for developing and implementing AI technologies in key operational areas of the armed forces, including intelligence and reconnaissance data analysis, autonomous combat systems, decision-making support, and logistics optimization.
“To protect Poland effectively, we must invest in security on multiple levels – the best aircraft, tanks, air defense systems, and the most well-trained soldiers – experienced and well-managed. And something indispensable, which should always come first – information protection, its analysis, and implementation. All of this is tied to utilizing digital space,” noted the minister of national defense.
The center will also focus on broad collaboration with the industrial sector and academia to enhance synergy and assess the suitability of commercial AI solutions for military applications.
Artificial intelligence as a key element of future armed forces
Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed that AI implementation is not just about modernization but a necessity in the face of increasing cyber threats.
“We are not only building cybersecurity, but we aim to stay ahead of our adversaries and competitors while positioning ourselves as a leader among nations of goodwill – countries that allocate their budgets to innovative and effective solutions. We are NATO's leader in transformation spending. Transformation is not just about acquiring equipment – it is an investment in digital security and AI implementation. In a few years, no army will be able to function without artificial intelligence,” said the deputy prime minister.
During the briefing, deputy minister of national defense Cezary Tomczyk highlighted the scale of challenges in cyberspace.
“On average, we experience 5,000 attacks on our military networks annually. Statistically, every two hours, there is an attack on Polish military networks. It is Polish soldiers who protect us from this – from the exposure of sensitive information and the compromise of our military networks. This is a crucial task today. Artificial intelligence is the future, but the future starts now – it is happening here and now. We must be at the forefront of AI and the implementation of the most important solutions,” said Tomczyk.
Poland at the forefront of military AI development
With the new center, Poland has the opportunity to become a leader in the use of artificial intelligence in defense. “When we talk about AI companies in Poland and globally, in nearly every one of them, among the top programmers, we can find representatives of our country – Polish men and women. We want them to develop their skills here and contribute to building modern technologies in our country,” added the deputy minister of national defense.
The artificial intelligence implementation center marks a groundbreaking step towards the digital transformation of the Polish armed forces and the enhancement of national security in the face of dynamically evolving challenges of the 21st century.
