Four key areas of cooperation
As highlighted by Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz, the agreement focuses on four strategic areas:
Acquisition of the Polish Piorun air defense system by Slovakia – The Piorun system has proven its combat effectiveness in Ukraine and is one of Poland’s key defense exports.
Boosting ammunition production capacities, particularly 155mm artillery rounds – Slovakia possesses significant production capabilities, among the largest in Europe and globally.
Joint production of a wheeled armored personnel carrier, based on the Polish Rosomak chassis and integrated with the Turra-30 turret system, developed by Slovakia. This collaboration aims to create a competitive export product.
Slovakia’s interest in a localized version of the K2 tank, which could provide a substantial boost to Poland’s defense industry.
Strategic partnership for regional security
The ministers also discussed broader military cooperation, including territorial defense forces and border security. Both nations share a common stance on EU and NATO defense spending policies, emphasizing that security should remain a top priority for the European Union.
Additionally, they addressed ongoing allied projects and assessed regional, European, and global security challenges.
– Our cooperation is crucial for strengthening NATO’s eastern flank and European unity – stated Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz. – By advancing joint defense initiatives, Poland and Slovakia are not only enhancing their military capabilities but also contributing to regional stability.
The Warsaw meeting marks another step toward deepening Poland-Slovakia defense collaboration, which is expected to yield tangible benefits for both nations and their defense industries.
