Police strengthen environmental patrol fleet with NFOŚiGW-funded vessels
Poland’s Police have significantly reinforced their operational capabilities on inland and coastal waters with the delivery of three modern RIB patrol boats financed under the “Adaptation to Climate Change and Limiting Environmental Risks” programme of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW).

The investment forms part of a wider national effort to strengthen environmental protection, improve safety on waterways and enhance rapid response to climate-related and ecological threats, including floods and major pollution incidents.
New vessels now in operational service
Under a funding agreement signed in September 2024, three factory-new patrol boats (model year 2025) were delivered to Police units across the country in late 2025:
- On 24 November 2025, a SPORTIS S-10500/K RIB (R-1 category) equipped with two 350 hp Yamaha four-stroke outboard engines was handed over to the West Pomeranian Police (Szczecin).
- On 22 December 2025, two Parker 650 Cabin RIBs (R-2 category), each powered by a 200 hp Mercury four-stroke outboard, were delivered to the Lower Silesian Police (Wrocław) and the Subcarpathian Police (Rzeszów).
With these deliveries, the objectives of the project were fully achieved.
Focus on environmental protection and public safety
The new boats will be used in a wide range of operational tasks, including:
- combating illegal fishing and waterborne poaching,
- preventing and detecting water pollution,
- protecting coastal and inland water areas,
- maintaining public order and navigational safety,
- supporting emergency response operations, particularly during floods and major environmental incidents.
Thanks to their RIB hulls and high-power propulsion, the vessels provide high speed, stability and excellent manoeuvrability, allowing Police units to reach incident sites quickly and operate effectively in demanding conditions.
NFOŚiGW – backbone of Poland’s environmental financing
The acquisition was funded by NFOŚiGW, Poland’s main public institution for financing environmental protection and water management. Established in 1989, the Fund plays a central role in implementing national environmental policy, offering grants, loans and other financial instruments to public authorities, companies and other beneficiaries.
The programme supporting the Police aims to promote low-carbon transition, sustainable development and environmental quality, while also strengthening institutional capacity to respond to climate-related risks.
A stronger maritime and inland water policing capability
By introducing modern, high-performance patrol craft into service, the Polish Police are gaining a new level of operational capability on the water. The investment not only improves public safety but also reinforces Poland’s ability to protect its waterways and respond effectively to environmental and climate-driven challenges — an increasingly important task for maritime and inland water authorities across Europe.
