The first young seals at the Hel Seal Sanctuary. The rehabilitation season begins

The Prof. Krzysztof Skóra Marine Station of the University of Gdańsk has welcomed its first patients of the year – young grey seals in need of intensive veterinary care.

The first patient, a female named Gwiazdka ("Little Star"), was found on the beach between Władysławowo and Chałupy, near the beach entrance known as "gwiaździste" ("starry"). She was extremely weak, dehydrated, and suffering from periodontal inflammation. "She is tiny, emaciated, and has periodontal inflammation. She has already received her first meal and medication," the Marine Station reports.

The second patient is Piątka ("Five"), another young female grey seal, discovered in Chałupy near entrance number 5, which inspired her name. She arrived at the center in a state of general exhaustion, with pneumonia and minor wounds.

Both seals were rescued and transported to the Marine Station by Wojtek Czuchryta, Leader of the Blue Patrol, together with volunteer Roma. Their treatment and rehabilitation will require intensive specialist care and financial support. As every year, the Marine Station calls for help, encouraging donations to the fundraiser organized by the University of Gdańsk Development Foundation.
