The meeting focused on the current status of project development, upcoming challenges, and security requirements related to critical infrastructure. Particular attention was given to physical security, cybersecurity, and protection against insider threats — areas of growing importance for large-scale energy investments located in coastal regions.
NNSA, an agency within the U.S. Department of Energy, is responsible for nuclear security, non-proliferation efforts, and emergency response. The U.S. delegation was led by Matthew Napoli.
During the talks, PEJ presented progress on the project and discussed continued NNSA support, including the deployment of agency experts to deliver specialized training in nuclear security disciplines. NNSA specialists also regularly participate in technical workshops together with the Westinghouse Electric Company – Bechtel Corporation consortium, which is responsible for project implementation.
– Although PEJ has an experienced security and cybersecurity team, the nuclear sector requires exceptionally high standards. Cooperation with NNSA provides significant added value and strengthens our organizational capabilities – said Marek Woszczyk, President of the Management Board of PEJ.
The nuclear power plant project in northern Poland is regarded as a strategic investment for the country’s energy transition and a key component of critical coastal and maritime-related infrastructure.
