Strategic importance of the investment
DW501 serves as a vital transport link between the Vistula Spit and the rest of the country. In recent years, its technical condition had been deteriorating due to heavy use, particularly during the construction of the Vistula Spit canal. The completion of that project created an opportunity for the road’s modernization, significantly improving regional infrastructure.
Scope of work and modernization outcomes
The project involved upgrading a 17.3-kilometer section between Stegna and Krynica Morska. Key improvements included resurfacing the roadway, constructing a new stormwater drainage system in towns along the route, and reconstructing intersections to enhance road safety. Additionally, a modern technical infrastructure was installed, along with pedestrian walkways, significantly improving both safety and travel comfort.
- The reconstruction of DW501 is a critical investment for the region, improving not only connectivity but also boosting tourism and enhancing road safety, emphasized Miłosz Kulik, contract manager at Budimex SA.
Benefits for tourists and residents
DW501 is a key transport route for local residents and the thousands of tourists visiting Krynica Morska each year. During the summer season, it is one of the most congested roads in the Pomeranian voivodeship, often plagued by traffic jams. The modernization works will significantly enhance travel comfort and road capacity, minimizing traffic disruptions.
