Baltica 9+ secures CfD. PGE to deliver 1.3 GW offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea
The Baltica 9 offshore wind project developed by PGE Group has secured a two-sided Contract for Difference (CfD) in Poland’s first-ever offshore wind auction. At the same time, PGE has signed a conditional agreement with RWE to acquire RWE Offshore Wind Poland sp. z o.o., the owner of the FEW Baltic II project with a capacity of approximately 350 MW. The combination of both assets will result in the Baltica 9+ offshore wind farm with a total installed capacity of around 1.3 GW, scheduled for commissioning by 2032.

The outcome of Poland’s inaugural offshore auction marks a turning point for the development of offshore wind in the Polish Baltic Sea. According to Dariusz Lubera, CEO of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, the auction ensures project continuity, financial stability and long-term growth of the domestic supply chain. Merging Baltica 9 with FEW Baltic II will improve cost efficiency and enable the delivery of competitively priced renewable electricity to end users.
Over the past year, PGE Baltica has carried out an in-depth revision and optimisation of technical and economic assumptions for its offshore portfolio. This process ran in parallel with the acquisition of RWE’s Polish offshore assets and the organic development of the Baltica 9 project, including extensive geophysical and geotechnical surveys. As highlighted by Bartosz Fedurek, CEO of PGE Baltica, the company’s strategic objective was to minimise the cost of energy while maintaining robust financial foundations for safe project delivery.
The 975 MW Baltica 9 project is located in the western part of the Słupsk Bank (area 44.E.1), one of five offshore sites awarded to PGE in 2023. Covering approximately 121 km² and situated around 48 km offshore, the project benefits from confirmed seabed conditions and proximity to PGE’s planned operations and maintenance base in Ustka. Preliminary grid connection conditions have been secured, 2D UHRS geophysical surveys have been completed, and the initial geotechnical campaign is currently being finalised.
