Capsized sailing yacht off the Sopot pier
The first incident occurred on 22 August around noon, when the division’s duty officer received a mayday call reporting a capsized sailing yacht near the Sopot pier. SG-213 immediately proceeded to the area to support the rescue vessels SAR Wiatr and R-9, already engaged in the operation. The joint effort ensured a swift and effective response.
Kitesurfer entangled in lines on Puck Bay
Later the same day, SG-213 was redirected to Puck Bay, where a kitesurfer had become entangled in kite lines and was unable to free himself. By the time the Border Guard arrived, the man had been taken aboard a civilian yacht in the vicinity. The SG-213 crew transferred him onto their vessel, administered first aid, and transported him to Gdynia port. Exhausted but stable, he was handed over to his family and did not require hospital treatment.
Sunday mayday off Górki Zachodnie
On Sunday, another mayday call was received – this time from a kitesurfer whose equipment failed in adverse weather conditions, leaving him unable to return to shore. The SG-213 crew recovered the fatigued and frightened man from the water and safely transported him to Górki Zachodnie port.
Professionalism at sea
Thanks to the rapid response and professionalism of the Kashubian Border Guard division, three lives were saved over the course of the weekend.
One of the survivors expressed gratitude in a letter to the Maritime Border Guard headquarters: – Thanks to your efficiency, composure, and dedication, the situation ended safely. I am deeply grateful for the assistance and support provided.
