Silver for Agata Barwińska at the ILCA 6 European Championships. Outstanding performance by Polish sailors

The 2025 sailing season clearly belongs to Agata Barwińska. The Polish representative and PGE Sailing Team Poland Ambassador secured the silver medal at the World Championships in Qingdao this May, and has now repeated the feat at the ILCA 6 European Championships in Sweden, finishing second among Europeans and third overall.

The fight went down to the very last race. We had every possible condition during these regattas, which proves how important versatility is. After a slightly weaker day yesterday, I managed to come back to a podium position today, and I am really happy about that. It’s my second championship medal this season – let’s hope next year will bring similar resultssaid Agata Barwińska.

The European Championships gathered an impressive fleet: 93 women competed in ILCA 6 and 153 men in ILCA 7. From the very beginning, the Polish sailors demonstrated excellent form, consistently placing among the leaders. Beyond Barwińska’s medal, there were further strong results:

  • Wiktoria Gołębiowska (UKŻ Wiking Toruń) – 8th overall and 5th among Europeans,
  • Magdalena Kwaśna (Chojnicki Klub Żeglarski), Tokyo 2020 Olympian making her return to competitive sailing after several years – 11th overall and 8th among Europeans.

These were very good regattas. What makes me the happiest is that three of our sailors are in the top group. With a medal in hand, it’s hard to imagine a better conclusion to the event. It’s clear that the athletes are raising their level and forming a strong teamemphasized Zdzisław Staniul, Head Coach of the Polish Yachting Association (PZŻ) National Team.

The results were also praised by Piotr Myszka, PZŻ Head Coach.

You could call the ILCA 6 sailors “Zizi’s Angels” – Agata with a medal, Wiktoria fifth, Magdalena sixth among Europeans. It’s a fantastic achievement. I am very pleased with how the ILCA 6 group, under Zdzisław Staniul’s guidance, has developed. The silver at the World Championships and now another medal at the Europeans confirm Agata’s place among the global elite, while Wiktoria and Magdalena are quickly joining that level. This kind of collaboration and internal competition is the only way to stay competitive worldwide and to keep winning medals.

The success in Sweden once again highlights the strength of Polish sailing in the ILCA 6 class. With Agata Barwińska, Wiktoria Gołębiowska, and Magdalena Kwaśna all delivering top-tier performances, Poland is solidifying its position as a force to be reckoned with on the international sailing stage.
