Economic cooperation between the port of Antwerp-Bruges and India – new opportunities
India plays a key role in various sectors. Zeebrugge, the world's largest car transshipment port, is becoming a crucial logistics partner for Indian automotive companies. India is also a global leader in IT and innovation. Like the port, Indian enterprises are heavily investing in energy transformation.
The port of Antwerp-Bruges strengthened its partnership with India during the Belgian economic mission in March 2025. During the event, Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT), Green H2 India, and the Belgian Hydrogen Council signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU). This agreement aims to support the production of renewable hydrogen and the development of alternative energy sources worldwide.
Education and knowledge exchange – the key to effective cooperation
The port maintains strong trade relations with India, placing great emphasis on knowledge exchange. The JNPA-Antwerp Port Training and Consultancy Foundation and the Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Centre (APEC) organize training in port management and logistics for Indian port workers. The port of Antwerp-Bruges International also supports local organizations such as the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata in implementing port projects.
Excellence Through Sangam – a prestigious gala strengthening Belgium-India partnership
During the economic mission, Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) and the port of Antwerp-Bruges organized a series of events, including the "Excellence Through Sangam" gala, which aimed to highlight and strengthen the strong cooperation between Belgium and India. The gala took place in the impressive Lotus Room at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai, providing a unique opportunity to celebrate the partnership between the two countries.
The name "Sangam" in Sanskrit means "union" or "meeting," symbolizing the connection and collaboration between different cultures and nations. In the context of this gala, "Excellence Through Sangam" reflects the pursuit of excellence through cooperation and exchange between Belgium and India. This event was part of broader efforts to deepen economic and cultural ties between these countries.
