Gdańsk University of Technology partners with Hanwha Ocean on Arctic submarine operations research
Gdańsk University of Technology (GUT) and Hanwha Ocean have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research focused on the safety and operational efficiency of submarines in ice-covered waters.

- Strengthening our cooperation with Hanwha Ocean opens new opportunities in Arctic research and maritime technology. Our expertise in marine engineering will allow us to contribute significantly to this international research project, said Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology.
Under the MoU, GUT will serve as an advisory partner in the project, led by Hanwha Ocean in cooperation with Finnish firm Aker Arctic Technology Oy. The university’s involvement includes:
- Verification of model testing methodologies,
- Assessment of ice condition simulation parameters relevant to the Baltic Sea,
- Support in the analysis of test results,
- Potential expansion of collaboration in subsequent project phases.
- Partnering with Gdańsk University of Technology allows us to strengthen the regional dimension of our research and ensure the highest quality scientific analysis in submarine operations under extreme conditions, emphasized Charlie SC Eoh, President and COO of Naval Ship Business at Hanwha Ocean.
This agreement represents another step in Hanwha Ocean’s growing collaboration with Polish partners in the field of innovative maritime and defense technologies.
