Beach under surveillance, new crossing in Nowe Warpno - border control changes in West Pomerania
Pursuant to the Regulation of the Minister of the Interior and Administration dated 1 August 2025, amending the ordinance on the temporary reintroduction of border control at internal borders, new provisions have been implemented regarding the functioning of border crossings in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. These changes are administrative in nature and aim to adapt border control operations to current traffic levels and operational needs.

One of the key updates concerns the popular pedestrian crossing between Świnoujście (Poland) and Ahlbeck (Germany). The scope of control has been extended to include the adjacent beach area, which sees high foot and bicycle traffic, particularly during the summer season.
- The area of control at the Świnoujście – Ahlbeck border crossing along the transborder promenade has been expanded to include the adjacent beach. Crossing the border in these locations will remain permitted, and Border Guard officers will conduct random checks there, said Tadeusz Gruchalla, spokesperson for the Maritime Border Guard Division.
As part of infrastructure optimization, a new pedestrian and bicycle border crossing has been established on the Nowe Warpno – Rieth route. Control procedures will be conducted approximately 50 meters before the bridge over the Myśliborska Struga stream. This update aligns with efforts to support local mobility while maintaining necessary security protocols.
Simultaneously, two minor riverine border crossings – Widuchowa and Gryfino – have been removed from the official list due to inactivity. The decision reflects the practical need to allocate resources where they are operationally justified.
These changes are part of a broader national strategy for temporary internal border control, designed to respond to evolving security conditions and migration patterns in the Baltic Sea region.
