ORLEN boosts domestic gas output with launch of the Różańsko field
ORLEN has commenced production from the Różańsko natural gas field in north-western Poland (West Pomeranian Voivodeship), marking another step in strengthening the country’s domestic hydrocarbon output and energy security. The recoverable gas resources of the field are estimated at approximately 1.2 billion cubic metres.

The Różańsko project is closely linked to the expansion of the Dębno Oil and Gas Production Plant, one of ORLEN’s key onshore upstream assets in Poland. The integration of the new field with existing infrastructure not only enables its commercial development but also allows increased production from other nearby fields already in operation.
- Domestic gas and oil production remains one of the pillars of Poland’s energy security. Today, around 20% of national gas demand is covered by domestic output, amounting to nearly 3.5 bcm annually. In the coming years, as demand continues to grow, we plan to systematically increase production to reach 4 bcm per year by 2030, said Wiesław Prugar, ORLEN Management Board Member responsible for Upstream.
At peak levels, the Różańsko field is expected to raise Poland’s domestic gas production by up to 130 million cubic metres per year. ORLEN plans to produce gas from the field for around 20 years, aligning with the period of highest projected gas demand in the Polish economy. The gas will primarily supply combined heat and power plants in Kostrzyn nad Odrą and Gorzów Wielkopolski, supporting regional power and heat generation.
The field development programme included the modernisation of three existing production wells, expansion of surface facilities, and construction of a new pipeline connecting Różańsko with the Dębno production plant. As part of the broader investment, the Dębno facility has been equipped with an 8 MW gas-fired cogeneration unit fuelled by gas from nearby fields. This ensures full coverage of the plant’s electricity and process heat demand, with surplus power exported to the market. The upgrade also enables increased output from the neighbouring Cychry field.
In addition to natural gas, the project will deliver crude oil and liquid sulphur, produced using a newly installed gas desulphurisation unit. These products will be supplied to Poland’s refining, petrochemical and chemical industries, including fertiliser and rubber manufacturing.
The launch of Różańsko forms part of ORLEN’s 2035 strategy, which предусматривает growth in domestic gas production to 4 bcm annually by 2030. At the same time, the group continues to expand its upstream portfolio on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and through further international projects, targeting total equity gas production of around 12 bcm per year from its own fields by the end of the decade.
