ORLEN Neptun backs Polish firms. MEWO, Geofizyka Toruń and ORLEN Petrobaltic to survey Baltic East
ORLEN Group continues to expand its offshore wind portfolio in the Baltic Sea, placing strong emphasis on local content. For its second offshore wind project – Baltic East – ORLEN Neptun has commissioned a consortium of three Polish companies: MEWO, Geofizyka Toruń, and ORLEN Petrobaltic, to carry out comprehensive seabed surveys.

The scope of work includes geotechnical, geophysical, seismic, and laboratory analyses, with drilling up to 100 meters below the seabed. The surveys will assess soil stability and composition to ensure safe turbine foundations, while also identifying potential hazards such as unexploded ordnance. The operations, taking place at sea depths of around 35 meters, are scheduled for completion later this year. The results will form the basis for the project's preliminary technical design.
– From the outset, our aim has been to leverage the full potential of Polish companies for our strategic investments – said Ireneusz Fąfara, President of the ORLEN Management Board. – With Baltic East, we want local participation to reach at least twice the level achieved in our first offshore project, Baltic Power.
Baltic East is expected to deliver around 1 GW of installed capacity – enough to power approximately 1.25 million households with zero-emission electricity. The share of Polish companies in the project is projected to reach 45%, marking a significant milestone in the development of the domestic offshore wind supply chain.
– We’re entering a crucial phase in the Baltic East development timeline. We’re moving forward without delay, committed to adding new offshore capacity to the national grid within the next few years – said Janusz Bil, CEO of ORLEN Neptun.
Baltic East will follow Baltic Power, ORLEN’s first offshore wind project, which is set to become operational in 2026 and deliver 1.2 GW to the national grid – covering approximately 3% of Poland’s electricity demand. With six offshore wind concessions secured in total, ORLEN’s full Baltic potential may reach up to 6.4 GW.
These projects are aligned with ORLEN’s 2035 strategy, which targets 12.8 GW of installed renewable energy capacity across the Group’s portfolio.
