On Friday, July 4, Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. in Gdańsk celebrated the successful launch of a state-of-the-art hybrid passenger-car ferry being built for Norwegian operator Torghatten Nord AS. The vessel, ordered under a contract signed in December 2023, reflects the latest advancements in sustainable maritime transport solutions.

The launching ceremony was attended by key representatives from the shipyard, including CEO Dariusz Jaguszewski, Vice President Bartłomiej Pomierski, B620/1 Project Manager Piotr Alboszta, and Head of Contracting Michał Jaguszewski. From the owner’s side, the event saw the participation of Torghatten Nord AS CEO Marius Hansen, CFO Trygve Tofte, broker Jon Staalesen, Gjermund Johannessen – CEO of The Norwegian Ship Design Company AS, and project manager Tore Heidegard.
- The launch proceeded on schedule and without incident. The vessel is now approximately 80 percent complete. We will soon begin preparations for harbor trials, which are planned for the second half of September, said Piotr Alboszta, project manager.
The ferry was designed by The Norwegian Ship Design Company AS, with support from Remontowa Marine Design & Consulting – a design office within the Remontowa Holding group. Particular attention was given to the use of lightweight materials and technical solutions aimed at minimizing energy losses, which will contribute to a significant reduction in operational energy consumption.
The vessel will be fitted with two azimuth thrusters featuring vertically mounted electric motors powered by lithium-ion batteries. These batteries will be recharged from shore power during port calls, with onboard generators available for backup charging if needed.
The ferry will measure 63.65 meters in length and 15.50 meters in beam. It will accommodate up to 149 persons (passengers and crew) and carry 50 passenger vehicles. Delivery to the owner is scheduled for Q1 2026. Upon completion, the vessel will enter service on the Stornes–Bjørnerå route in the Troms region of northern Norway, with a crossing time of just 12 minutes.
Remontowa Shipbuilding has been collaborating with Torghatten Nord AS since 2009. Between 2012 and 2013, the yard delivered four LNG-powered ferries – Landegode, Væroy, Barøy, and Lødingen – all serving routes in the Lofoten archipelago. Today, Torghatten Nord operates 43 ferry routes and 15 high-speed passenger connections across Norway.
