Delivery and christening of m/v Polsteam Rudno - the sixth of twelve lakers for Polsteam

A formal delivery and christening ceremony was held at the shipyards of the Chinese Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC) for the latest bulk carrier in a series of twelve lakers being built for Polska Żegluga Morska (PŻM). The modern vessel, m/v Polsteam Rudno, will join the PŻM fleet, further strengthening the company’s position on shipping routes leading to the Great Lakes of North America.

Vessel christening and maiden voyage

The vessel’s godmother, Joanna Ilas, a specialist at PŻM’s fleet operations department with many years of service in the company, played a key role in the christening ceremony, a symbolic moment reflecting both the fleet’s expansion and the dedication of its personnel.

Like all vessels in this series, m/v Polsteam Rudno has been specifically designed for the safe and efficient transport of bulk cargo in the demanding inland navigation conditions of the Great Lakes region. The vessel’s maiden cargo will consist of steel products, which, under the command of capt. Andrzej Tłusty, will be transported from Asian ports to North American customers.

The PŻM lakers feature an optimized hull design to navigate the locks and channels of the Great Lakes system efficiently. Equipped with state-of-the-art propulsion systems and eco-friendly technological solutions, these vessels align with global trends in reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency in maritime transport.

The delivery of this new laker series is part of PŻM’s long-term strategy to modernize and rejuvenate its fleet, enhancing its competitiveness in the international bulk shipping market. All twelve vessels are expected to enter service as planned, further solidifying the Polish shipowner’s position on key trade routes.
