New cargo handling capacity in the Port of Szczecin: modernisation of Slovak Quay completed

The Port of Szczecin continues to strengthen its position as a competitive logistics hub in the Baltic Sea region. The completion of Stage IV of the investment project titled "Improving Access to the Port in the Dębicki Canal Area", which included the modernisation of the Czech and Slovak Quays, marks another important milestone. As a result, the Slovak Quay is now fully operational and equipped to handle vessels with deeper drafts.

The first vessel to call at the modernised quay delivered a cargo of soybean meal, handled by the company Viterra. This marks a significant moment not only for the operator but for the entire port, which now adds another strategic link in its bulk cargo handling capabilities.

According to port representatives, the modernisation of the Slovak Quay is a major step forward in enhancing Szczecin’s logistics potential and accessibility for modern maritime vessels. Deepened approach channels and reinforced quay structures now enable the port to accommodate larger ships, directly contributing to increased operational efficiency and investment attractiveness.

The investment included comprehensive hydrotechnical works such as deepening of the approach fairway and port basins, reconstruction of quay infrastructure, and modernisation of cargo handling systems. Carried out in several stages, the project aims to improve access to the port from both inland waterways and the sea, while upgrading infrastructure to meet the evolving demands of the maritime and logistics sectors.

The upgraded Slovak Quay represents another forward-looking development in the Port of Szczecin’s long-term growth strategy, reaffirming its commitment to modern infrastructure that meets the challenges of an increasingly dynamic maritime economy.
