NATO adopts new plan to enhance rapid response capabilities
A key meeting of the North Atlantic Council in the format of defense ministers took place at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. The main topics of discussion included deterrence, defense, and the development of NATO's defense capabilities in response to evolving international security challenges. A plan to enhance NATO's rapid response capabilities was adopted, significantly improving the protection of the alliance’s eastern flank, including Poland.

- This means an increase in protection capabilities, particularly for NATO’s eastern flank and especially Poland, by all allied forces, emphasized Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz, highlighting the unity and cohesion of NATO's actions.
NATO strengthens security in the Baltic Sea
A key topic of discussion was NATO’s new mission – Baltic Guard, a result of Poland’s diplomatic efforts. Prime Minister Donald Tusk proposed the initiative in Stockholm and Helsinki, stressing the need for security in the Baltic Sea region, which was reflected in NATO's decisions.
The new mission involves not only Baltic states but also France, Belgium, and other allies who will contribute to the protection of critical infrastructure in the region. This decision represents a significant step towards strengthening maritime security and countering hybrid threats in the Baltic area.
European security strategy and defense industry investments
In the face of growing geopolitical challenges, NATO member states are increasing their defense spending. Poland, reaching 4.7% of GDP in 2025, is emerging as a leader in mobilizing other countries to boost their defense budgets.
- Europe must learn this lesson – not to replace American forces, but to maintain their presence. That is why spending is being increased, said Kosiniak-Kamysz, emphasizing the need to further strengthen Europe’s defense potential.
A crucial aspect of these efforts is also the development of the European defense industry. Holding the EU Council Presidency, Poland is actively engaged in initiatives to increase investments in the defense sector. Planned expenditures of 500 billion euros aim to drive the dynamic development of production and technological capabilities in Europe.
NATO-Ukraine cooperation
On the same day, a NATO-Ukraine Council meeting took place with the participation of Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas. Discussions focused on further support for Ukraine and NATO’s strategy regarding regional stabilization and future security architecture in Europe.
The decisions made at the Brussels meeting set new directions for NATO’s development and cooperation, reinforcing alliance unity and readiness to respond to contemporary threats.
