Easier recruitment, more officers. Border Guard simplifies enrollment!

As of January 22, a revised qualification procedure applies to candidates applying for service in the Border Guard. The changes aim to increase recruitment efficiency and attract as many suitable candidates as possible. This year, the Maritime Border Guard Unit has 140 positions available for applicants.

The new regulations introduce a simplified qualification procedure. The initial interview and the foreign language exam have been removed. The most significant changes focus on streamlining the qualification process for specific groups of candidates: graduates of uniformed classes and former Border Guard officers reapplying for service. The adjustments create more favorable conditions for those who meet specific criteria deemed crucial for the needs of the service.

Graduates of uniformed schools in their final year of study can now take the physical fitness test as part of the qualification process, and their results will remain valid for three years. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to complete basic vocational training to bridge curriculum differences. A notable change is that they will be given priority in recruitment to the Border Guard.

Former Border Guard officers who apply for reinstatement within a year of leaving the service will be exempt from the knowledge test, physical fitness test, psychological and psychophysiological examinations, and security clearance procedures—provided they already hold a valid security clearance. If they apply within five years of leaving but after the first year, they will still be exempt from the knowledge test, physical fitness test, and security clearance, as long as they maintain their security credentials.

- We believe these changes will streamline the recruitment process and encourage more applications - says Tadeusz Gruchalla, acting spokesperson for the Commander of the Maritime Border Guard Unit in Gdańsk. - Priority in recruitment will likely go to graduates of uniformed schools, individuals with professional experience and qualifications (STCW) necessary for service on maritime units, mechanics for service on floating units, as well as former officers with relevant experience from uniformed services. However, lack of experience is not a barrier. At the Border Guard Academy in Koszalin and other training centers, new recruits receive comprehensive training for service.”

Apart from serving on floating units, officers can work in various specialties at land-based Border Guard stations, from Krynica Morska near the Russian border to Szczecin and Świnoujście on the German border. The Maritime Border Guard Unit includes document forgery experts, migration specialists, bomb disposal experts, service dog handlers, and even musicians. The unit has its own orchestra—the only one in the Border Guard that performs in naval uniforms.

New Border Guard officers can earn over 6,000 PLN net per month. They are also entitled to housing allowances, financial assistance for purchasing a home, and reimbursement for commuting expenses. Additional benefits include a uniform allowance, a 13th salary, and vacation subsidies.

However, only individuals who meet the following criteria can serve in the Border Guard: they must hold Polish citizenship, have an unblemished reputation, have no criminal record, fully enjoy public rights, possess at least a secondary or vocational education, and be physically and mentally fit for service in an armed formation under strict disciplinary regulations. They must also meet the requirements for handling classified information.
